If you hate peeling hard-boiled eggs, this recipe will change your life. Air fryer eggs peel almost by themselves — the shell practically slides off. No boiling water, no timer watching, no more eggs with half the white stuck to the shell.
The magic: low heat for longer means the air pocket inside the shell expands gently, separating the membrane from the white. Peeled egg perfection.
📋 Recipe
Ingredients
- 6-12 large eggs (straight from fridge)
- Bowl of ice water for cooling
- That's it. No other ingredients needed.
Instructions
- Place eggs in air fryer basket. Cold eggs straight from the fridge. Arrange in a single layer with a bit of space between them.
- Cook at 270°F for your desired doneness: See times below for each level.
- Soft-boiled (runny yolk): 10 min. Yolk is liquid. Great for ramen, toast, salad.
- Jammy yolk: 12 min. Custardy, slightly set. Our favorite. Perfect for avocado toast.
- Medium-boiled: 13 min. Yolk mostly set with a tiny bit of give.
- Hard-boiled (firm yolk): 15 min. Fully set yolk. Classic deviled egg territory.
- Immediately transfer to ice water. 2 minutes minimum. This stops the cooking and makes peeling easy.
- Peel. Tap the wide end (air pocket) on the counter, roll gently, and the shell slides off. Magic.
🔥 Pro Tips
- Cold eggs, no preheat: Eggs go in cold straight from the fridge. Don't preheat the air fryer — the slower heat-up is why they peel so well.
- Ice bath is mandatory: Skipping = shells stick, overcooked greenish yolks. 2 min min, 5 is better.
- Fresh vs old eggs: Older eggs (1+ weeks old) peel easier because the air pocket is bigger. Brand new eggs can still stick.
- Single layer: Don't stack eggs — they need air circulation to cook evenly.
- Write the time on the shell: Jot the day you cooked them in pencil on each shell so you know which are fresh in your fridge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my eggs crack in the air fryer?
Usually from hitting the basket rack hard. Place them gently. Pre-piercing the fat end helps too — releases steam pressure.
Do they really peel easier than stovetop?
Yes — noticeably. The slower heat expansion creates a bigger air gap between shell and egg.
Can I cook from frozen?
No — frozen eggs in the shell will explode. Only cook fresh refrigerated eggs.
How long do they keep?
Unpeeled in the fridge: 7 days. Peeled: 5 days. Write the cook date on the shell.
What temperature is safest?
All the temps above reach 160°F+ internally, which is food-safe. Even soft-boiled at 10 min is safe.
